aw man, i posted something here(and it was quite long too) but my internet connection must have not allowed me to post it... that saddens me....

so, sheikh ali's lesson was about riyah. (inshallah i'll post the notes that i took as soon as i type them up, but i'll summarize here)

riyah(showing off) is bad, and seems nearly inescapable. its when you do something not for allah, but for someone/thing else.

there are a ton of different types of riyah; some are obvious(like doing something so people like you or think you're cool) and less obvious things(like trying to make you masjid and home prayers equal just for the sake of them being equal.... when you should be making both of them equally good because it is obeying allah.

he gave some really awesome examples that really stuck, and inshallah i'll try to include a lot of them in the notes when i type them up inshallah.

subhanallah i keep thinking about this; you all should come on wednesday nights. if you can't come to the sports programme, at least come for sheikh ali's tafsir class. its really cool mashallah.
